Because MCT has medium chain (contain fewer carbon atoms), digested faster than long chain fats. They therefore provide energy more quickly compared to long chain fats which are mainly stored after being absorbed. Consumption of TCM oil can therefore increase the body’s ability to use fat. However, this increase appears to be only temporary. After a few weeks, the body seems to adapt and start burning TCM oil in the same way as other fats. Several clinical studies that have evaluated the effects of a diet rich in TCM oil have observed a beneficial effect of MCT oil on weight loss, but results in general have been modest. According to two meta-analyzes done on the subject, there is not enough scientific evidence to conclude that the consumption of TCM oil is effective for weight loss.
